Bracken control can be achieved in a number of ways:
1. A bracken roller is driven over the plant when it is fully mature, which crushes the stem at intervals along its length which causes the stem to wilt. This prevents nutrients being stored back into the plants root system and the effect is that the following year’s growth is a much smaller less vigorous plant. If this process is repeated for a number of years the bracken population will be significantly reduced and plants will only grow to approx 10-12 inches high, which enables the grass to grow within.
2. Flail cutting and removing can reduce plant populations significantly.
3. Spraying with an approved herbicide either by tractor or with handheld micron sprayer equipment will achieve a very high control. All operators have the relevant qualifications ensuring that accurate and safe practices are carried out at all times.
